 Mumbai celebrates festival of GaneshaMumbai, Sept 6: Mumbai celebrated the popular festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, with much pomp and show on Saturday.

The ten-day festival called as ''Ganesh Chaturthi'' began on Wednesday, which marks the birthday of lord Ganesha.

The festival is celebrated with much gaiety and people from all walks of life participate with equal enthusiasm and faith.

New RBI Governor Subbarao takes charge

Dr. Duvuri SubbaraoMumbai, Sep 5 : D Subbarao today took charge as the governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from Y V Reddy and set for himself the immediate task of containing inflation.

"The immediate priority for me as the governor of RBI will be to manage inflation and anchor inflationary expectations," Subbarao said here.

He said the priority in short-to-medium term will be to pursue financial sector reforms in the context of financial and price stability.

Inflation eased to 12.34 per cent during the week ended August 23 due to fall in food prices from 12.40 per cent a week earlier.

Bombay HC says bar dancers can be termed genuine artists

Mumbai High CourtMumbai, Sept. 4 : The Bombay High Court on Thursday said that a bar dancer can be termed a ''genuine artists''.

"Merely because these girls were performing in dance bars earlier, it cannot be readily inferred that they are not genuine artists," Justice A B Chaudhary said.

The dance bars of Mumbai had been given performance licenses by the government itself, Justice Chaudhary further noted.

Austral Coke Lists At Rs 206 On BSE

Kolkata-based Austral Coke and Projects got listed at Rs 206 on the Bombay Stock Austral Coke Lists At Rs 206 On BSEExchange (BSE), a premium of 5.10 percent from the issue price of Rs 196.

The scrip gained strength and touched a high of Rs 308.80. It also touched a low of Rs 206 thus far. At 10:03 am, the company’s shares stood at Rs 297 after hitting a high of Rs 308.80 and a low of Rs 206.

BSE has assigned a scrip code 533,016 to the company, while its shares will trade in the `B` group.

Devotees throng temples to offer prayers to lord Ganesha

The festival, which marks the birth anniversary of lord Ganesha, is celebrated with great fanfare across the country.

Hundreds of devotees thronged the temple in Coimbatore today, to offer prayers on the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi, in front of the idol, which is claimed by the temple priests to be the biggest in Asia.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations begin

President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh greeted the nation on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

In her message, Patil said, "Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival, which brings people together in an atmosphere of happiness. During the period of the festival this year, the people can be more aware about the environment, by celebrating it in an environment friendly way."
