Tibetans pray for the speedy recovery of Dalai Lama

Dalai LamaDharamsala/New Delhi/Mumbai, August 30 : Tibetans-in-exile in parts of India on Saturday prayed for the speedy recovery of their spiritual leader Dalai Lama.

He was taken to a hospital in Mumbai on Thursday after he complained of exhaustion.

The Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, cancelled all his engagements for the next three weeks to undergo medical check-up and take rest.

Tibetans in Dharamsala gathered in the main Buddhist temple premises to participate in the ''Global Tibet Fast'' campaign spearheaded by the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama to highlight the "Tibetan cause".

Dalai Lama to fast in today

Dalai LamaDharamsala, Aug 30: The Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Samdong Rinpoche has said that the Dalai Lama, who has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai since Thursday, will take part in today''s fast as there is no cause for concern.

"I just got information message from Mumbai that he will participate in the fast and he will also do prayers. He is not participating in the prayers amongst us in the temple, but he will do the same thing in the hospital," said Rinpoche.

Six Sonography Machines Sealed In Mumbai

In a major drive to check on the status of implementation of various PNDT rules in the Six Sonography Machines Sealed In Mumbai  city’s clinics, a team of National Inspection and Monitoring Committee (NIMC) has sealed six back to back ultra sonography machines in Mira road and Bhayander, taking the total number of sealed machines to 13, since its raids from Tuesday in the city.

One of the members of the team said, “Three machines were sealed at the Shraddha Maternity Home, Bhayander, which is owned by Dr. Rajesh Karodia.”

Shiv Sena wants BMC to enforce Marathi signboards

Raj ThackerayMumbai, Aug 28 : Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena is vying with the Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to get political space on the issue of Marathi signboards.

While the MNS deadline for Mumbai shop owners to change their signboards from English to Marathi ends today, the Shiv Sena has asked Brihanmumbai Municipal Committee (BMC) to enforce Marathi signboards on traders and shopkeepers.

Incidentally, the traders'' association has moved the Bombay High Court against Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak''s instructions on the issue.

The High Court will hear the application on Thursday.

CPI says US had knowledge that NSG meet would failMumbai, Aug 25 : The Communist Party of India today accused the US of being responsible for the failure of the recent Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) meeting in Vienna to give India a waiver for global nuclear commerce.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan told media persons here today, "Small countries raised objections and it was not without the knowledge of the US."

Bardhan said that most of the objections at Vienna were raised on the clauses of the Hyde Act, like continuous fuel supply to India.
