UN chief Ban Ki-moon to visit Nepal in end October

Ban Ki-MoonKathmandu, Oct 18 : UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will visit Nepal at the end of this month.

Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had formally extended an invitation to Ban Ki-moon when he met the latter on the sidelines of just concluded UN General Assembly.

According to the UN News Center, Ban Ki-moon''s tour itinerary includes stops in the Philippines, India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

During his Nepal visit, Ban Ki-moon will meet President Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, other officials and members of the Constituent Assembly.

Prachanda to work for poverty-free Nepal

Prachanda to work for poverty-free NepalKathmandu, Oct 17: Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda today appealed to political parties, civil society and international community to work in a coordinated manner to eliminate poverty from Nepal.

Speaking on the occasion of International Day on Elimination of Poverty here, Prachanda said, "I want to remind all that the policies and programs and budget presented by the government that I am leading also has put poverty alleviation as top priority."

He expressed full commitment to uplift the backward and disadvantaged communities in Nepal.

UNMIN not leaning towards any party, says Martin

Kathmandu, Oct 17 : United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Chief, Ian Martin has said that the UN body is not inclined towards any party while the peace process is underway.

His remakes came at a time when Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Korala had commented that the People Liberation Army (PLA) could not be integrated with the Nepal Army (NA) as Martin rejected the idea of sending the PLA in UN''s peace keeping operations.

Speaking at a press meet here on Thursday, Martin said the UN mission always sought to play an impartial role and was committed to work fairly in the peace process.

German police identify 14 of 18 dead in Nepal crash

Wiesbaden, Germany - Pathologists have identified all 14 foreign tourists aboard a Twin Otter plane that crashed, killing 18 people, in Nepal this month, German federal police said Thursday.

Four Nepalese people were killed in the crash on October 8 at Lukla in the Himalayas.

Medical records from the tourists' homelands were used to identify the foreigners' remains.

Germany's BKA federal police sent a pathologist, a dentist and a police physician to Nepal to confirm the identities of 12 Germans and two Australians killed.

At its national headquarters in Wiesbaden, the BKA published a list of the states where the tourists lived before their departure to Nepal.

Agreement reached on Nepal army integration, says General Katawal

Kathmandu, Oct 15 : The chief of the Nepal Army (NA) General Rookmangud Katawal has said that the political parties have already reached an agreement on army integration.

Talking to mediapersons here, General Katawal said that thee parties have already reached an agreement. Debates and discussions are a part of democratic exercise.

“As per the peace pact and other understandings among the parties, the army integration will be carried out through a special cabinet committee, which has not yet been formed,” he added.

General Katawal said that Nepal army will abide by the law formulated by representatives elected by the Nepalese people.
