Bomb explosion in southern Nepal kills three

Kathmandu, NepalKathmandu  - At least three people, including two children, were killed Tuesday when a powerful bomb ripped through the centre of a busy highway town in southern Nepal, media reports said.

The bomb exploded at the Chandranighapur town centre in Rautahat district, about 140 kilometres south of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, on Tuesday afternoon, prompting rioting in the town, independent Radio Kantipur said.

The blast killed a woman and her 2-year-old daughter along with her 3-year-old nephew, the radio station said.

At least two people were injured in the blast.

Nepal to push for reducing trade gap with India

The Nepalese officials will put forth their concern at the Inter Governmental Committee (IGC) meeting slated to begin in New Delhi from Thursday.

“The main issue from our side will be how to increase our exports to India,” said Surya Prasad Silwal, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies.

The other item on the agenda to be raised by Nepal includes issues relating to the quota, standard certification, tax waiver and quarantine.

Kathmandu - Nepalese commission starts crash investigation A commission formed by the Nepalese government Saturday began its investigations into the plane crash in north-eastern part of the country that killed 18 people, mostly tourists, officials said.

The five-member committee, which includes the deputy attorney general and pilots, flew to Lukla, the site of the crash, about 150 kilometres north-east of the Nepalese capital.

The Twin Otter aircraft crashed while landing at the airport on Wednesday killing 12 Germans, four Nepalese and two Australians.

German accident investigator bound for Nepal after crash

Kathmandu, NepalBraunschweig, Germany - A German accident investigator is bound for Nepal after an air crash at a Himalayan airstrip that killed 18 people this week, the German aviation accident inquiry agency BFU said Thursday.

Among the dead in the crash at Lukla were 12 German tourists.

The BFU said at its office in Braunschweig, northern Germany, that Nepal had cleared its staffer to attend the investigation as an observer.

The precise contribution from the German would be up to the chief Nepalese investigator to decide.

Plane crash kills 12 Germans, 2 Swiss in Nepal Kathmandu - A German forensic team was expected to arrive in Kathmandu to identify the victims of a fatal air crash in north-eastern Nepal that killed 18 people, Nepalese officials said Thursday.

The victims of Wednesday's crash at Lukla airport, about 150 kilometres north-east of Kathmandu, included 12 German tourists.

The tourists were on their way to the Everest region for trekking.
