Sustainable political conversion impossible without cultural change in Nepal, says Prachanda

Kathmandu, Oct 5 : Nepal Prime Minister PrachandaNepal Prime Minister Prachanda has said that the political transformation cannot become sustainable and long-lasting without cultural transformation.

Speaking at the inaugural programme of the newly constructed building of Rastriya Nach Ghar here on Saturday, Prachanda said the political transformation would become handicapped and short-lived unless the cultural change process spreads out.

Kathmandu, Oct 5 : Nepal President Dr Ram Baran YadavNepal President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has reiterated the need to bolster national unity and communal harmony for peace and prosperity in the country.

Addressing a mass gathering following a concert programmes organised by Republicans Artistes Forum at Dashrath Stadium here on Saturday, Dr. Yadav called for political unity and cooperation in order to sustain peace and democracy.

He said that Nepal could become a rich country if the resources available here were utilised and distributed in a scientific manner.

Madhav Kumar Nepal urges coalition partners to ensure full term of Government

Kathmandu, Oct 5 : Former UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal urged the coalition partners to create an environment of trust in order to make sure that the current government survives its full-term - two years.

Nepal''s statement comes after the claim of some Nepali Congress leaders that the Maoist-led coalition government would collapse due to dispute among the ruling parties.

He said that Maoist leadership must control the unruly activities of its youth wing Young Communist League (YCL).

Stating that no political principles can be established in Nepali society unless status of people is improved, he termed the Maoist proposal of People''s Republic as untimely and inappropriate at this time.

Bomb explosion in south-eastern Nepal injure six Kathmandu - At least six people were injured when a powerful explosion ripped through a mosque in south-eastern Nepal, media reports said Sunday.

The blast targeted the mosque at Hattimuda village in Morang district, about 400 kilometres south-east of the capital, during evening prayers on Saturday night, the Kathmandu Post newspaper reported.

The newspaper said unidentified assailants threw the bomb into the mosque and fled.

The mosque was packed with people and most of the injured sustained shrapnel injuries.

Dutch tourist dies after falling into ravine Kathmandu - A Dutch tourist died after falling several metres down a narrow ravine in western Nepal, media reports said Sunday.

Peter Ross, 49, fell near the western town of Pokhara, about 200 kilometres west of Kathmandu, Saturday afternoon, Nepal Samacharpatra newspaper reported.

The newspaper said Ross fell some 30 metres into the ravine caused by river erosion on the ground while photographing the surrounding areas.

There are several similar ravines in the area hidden by tall grass making them difficult to see.

Nepalnews quoted Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara as saying that the government team will be led by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma Prabhakar and will include two other members - Minister for Local Development Ram Chandra Jha and Minister for Education Renu Yadav.
