Final hearing on Sobhraj case todayKathmandu, Aug 28 : Nepal''s Supreme Court is expected to announce its verdict in the case of ‘Bikni Killer’ Charles Sobhraj, the criminal mastermind serving life term in Kathmandu''''s Central Jail.

Earlier, Sobhraj''s lawyers argued that there was no concrete evidence to convict him in the three-decade-old murder case.

Although 64-year-old Sobhraj, a French citizen, is being held for violating immigration laws, the Nepal Police have charged him with the murder of two backpackers, a Canadian and an American, in 1975.

Nepal PM says he would take first political visit to India

Kathmandu, Pushpa Kamal DahalAugust 27 : Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday said he would go to India for his first political visit after taking charge of the PM office.

He further clarified that his China visit was not of political nature as he had gone there to take part in Olympics closing ceremony.

Dahal tried to clear up the speculations regarding his going to China as his maiden foreign tour, as there is a tradition of visiting India first by a newly elected Nepali Prime Minister.

According to Kantipur, he said that India should not take his China visit otherwise as it was not political.

Nepali Congress to hold general conventionKathmandu, Aug 27: The Central Working Committee (CWC) members of the Nepali Congress (NC) demanded that the party should call its 12th General Convention as soon as possible to reunite the party.

During the party CWC meeting, Nepali Congress member Binaya Dhoj Chan said, "Even after unification of the two parties including the Nepali Congress and the NC (Democratic), they have not been united emotionally."

"So all party members said an early general convention was the only way to unite the party and revive its deteriorating strength," he added.

Nepal government team to camp in Sunsari for rescue work

Kathmandu, Aug 27 : A high-level government team headed by ministers of defense and physical planning is to monitor the execution of work at the flood-affected areas at Sunsari and supervise the rescue and relief efforts for Saptakoshi flood victims.

A council of ministers meeting chaired by acting Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had reached the decision to this effect.

The team, which also comprises secretaries of the concerned ministries, high government officials and security chiefs, arrived in Sunsari on Tuesday.

The team has also been given the authority to immediately assume all the responsibilities to mobilize resources for smooth execution of the rescue and relief efforts.
