Spanish inflation hits record low

Spanish inflation hits record lowMadrid  - Spain's EU-harmonized inflation rate fell to the record low of 0.8 per cent in January, down from 1.5 per cent in December, the National Statistics Institute said Friday.

Inflation declined for the sixth consecutive month to the lowest level since such statistics began to be issued in 1977.

The drop was attributed mainly to lower oil prices.

Economy Secretary of State David Vegara described the drop as good news for families and exports, dismissing the possibility of deflation.

Real Madrid to register youngster Szalai for Champions League

Real Madrid LogoMadrid - Real Madrid are planning to register Hungarian youngster Adam Szalai for the knockout stages of the Champions League, according to the digital version of Marca on Thursday afternoon.

According to AS, the 21 year-old striker will be registered with UEFA before Saturday's deadline.

Szalai has still to make his first team debut, but has scored 13 goals this season for third division nursery side Castilla.

Spanish court to investigate Israeli minister over 2002 Gaza attack

SpainMadrid- Spain's National Court will investigate a 2002 Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip, with then defence minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer and six army members suspected of a crime against humanity, judge Fernando Andreu announced Thursday.

Andreu accepted a complaint lodged by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights.

Israel dropped a one-ton bomb into a Gaza City neighbourhood housing Hamas leader Salah Shehade on July 22, 2002. Shehade and 14 other people were killed in the attack.

Bilbao battled out a 2-1 comeback win in Gijon, who had played out a 0-0 draw in Bilbao last week.

Carmelo gave Gijon the lead after just 30 seconds with a fierce drive, after good work by Diego Castro.
