McCain leads Obama 45 percent to 42 percent in latest Fox News poll

Barack ObamaWashington, Sept. 11 : Republican John McCain continues to maintain a slim lead over Democratic rival Barack Obama, almost two weeks after the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.

According to a Fox News poll, McCain leads Obama by 45 percent to 42 percent. Independents too are backing McCain by 15 percentage points (46 percent to 31 percent). Last month, Obama had a one-point edge among independents.

Before the Democratic convention in Denver, Obama led McCain by 42 percent to 39 percent.

According to a new poll conducted by Fox News, Palin barely outpaces Barack Obama (32 percent), but is significantly ahead of both McCain (17 percent) and Joe Biden 
(10 percent).

Among independent voters, Palin’s lead over Obama on this score widens to 13 points (35 percent to 22 percent).

Led by Associate Professor Anthony LaMontagne of the McCaughey Centre, VicHealth Centre for the Promotion of Mental Health and Community Wellbeing, the University of Melbourne study examined the likelihood of sexual harassment in different types of employment.

Top US army official calls for major strategy shift to win war-on-terror in Afghanistan

Washington, Sept 11 : A top US military officer has said that America was not winning its war-on-terror in Afghanistan, and called for an overhaul in US’ war strategy, warning that thousands more troops were needed to battle an intensifying insurgency there, besides a greater US military involvement across the border in the strife-torn country’s tribal areas.

“I am not convinced that we’re winning it in Afghanistan. I’m convinced we can. Frankly, we are running out of time. Not sending US reinforcements to Afghanistan is too great a risk to ignore,” said Adm. Michael Mullen, who is the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff while testifying before the House Armed Services Committee.
