Washington, Sept. 11 : Polls show McCain gaining lead among women after Palin pickRepublican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s presence on the McCain ticket, coupled with Hillary Clinton’s absence, could see women voters overwhelmingly favor the Republicans.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll released this week showed white women swinging hard against the Democratic ticket. Obama left Denver with an 8-point lead among white women; and by the time John McCain pulled out of St. Paul, Minnesota, with Palin at his side, he had taken a 12-point lead.

Washington, September 11 : Data from satellites and observatories around the globe have shown that a jet from a powerful stellar explosion, which was witnessed on March 19 this year, was aimed almost directly at Earth.

NASA''s Swift satellite detected the explosion - formally named GRB 080319B - on the morning of March 19, and pinpointed its position in the constellation Bootes.

The event, called a gamma-ray burst, became bright enough for human eyes to see. Observations of the event are giving astronomers the most detailed portrait of a burst ever recorded.

The 45-member Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) had on Saturday decided to lift a 34-year-old ban on nuclear trade with New Delhi, a crucial step to sealing the U. S.-India civilian nuclear agreement.

Bush said in a statement that the agreement would reinforce a growing bilateral relationship between two vibrant democracies.
