West Bengal Soon To Have Country’s Second NSG HubNational Security Guard (NSG) Chief J.K. Dutt on Friday met with State Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to discuss the plan for a proposed hub of the NSG in the state.

Later speaking on this with the media persons, Dutt said, “The NSG's eastern India hub will come up in West Bengal. We are looking for land and the state government is cooperating with us.”

However, the NSG Chief declined to give any other details of the meeting.

Diarrhea Hits Kolkata BadlyThe death of a four year girl and 40-odd people falling ill due to an outburst of diarrhea in Tikiapara off Garden Reach in Kolkata has shaken and saddened the entire state.

It is believed that diarrhea have spread from contamination water due to the ongoing sewer line laying work in the locality.

Speaking with the media persons on this issue, Subodh Dey, Member, Mayor-in-Council (Health) of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) said that nearly 20 people, most of them believed to be from the slum areas have been admitted to hospital and the rest of those afflicted were being treated in private hospitals.

Five persons killed in political clashes in West Bengal

West BengalBirbhum, Feb. 7, : At least five persons died and many other injured in clashes between political activists in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Saturday.

The activists of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and Trinamool Congress clashed at Papuri village early in the morning.

The deceased has not been identified yet.

Eyewitnesses said that early in the morning CPI-M supporters attacked the members of Trinamool Congress and set fire to a few houses.

Violence breaks out in Siliguri

West Bengal, SiliguriSiliguri, Feb. 7, : Violence broke out in Siliguri during a 24-hour strike called by an outfit demanding autonomy on Saturday.

The indigenous Gorkha people have been demanding a separate state within West Bengal.

Police officials said the situation turned violent in Siliguri when the locals chased armed protesters under the banner of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM).

The shutdown was called to protest the recent violence on tribal people in the State.

Police officials said 12 people were arrested for inciting violence.

GJMM shutdown affects normal life in Darjeeling

DarjeelingDarjeeling, Feb 7 : The 24-hour shutdown called by the Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha (GJMM) on Saturday affected normal life in the Darjeeling hills'' Terai and Doars regions.

They are demanding the reopening of 13 closed tea gardens. Another demand is to get permission to organise political activities in the Doars region of Jalpaiguri district. The Morcha also asked that the alleged atrocities on adhivasis in Lalgarh by police and the ruling Left Front Government to be stopped.
