The ‘pub’ goldfish that swims upside down!

London, Aug 8 : A pub Down Under is drawing large number of people, not because it is serving free alcohol, but due to the antics of the bar landlord’s pet fish — it swims upside down.

The fish, named ‘Aussie’, has floated around with its white belly pointing upwards and its eyes staring down for the past four years down.

Customers at the Globe Inn, in Lympstone near Exeter, Devon, spend hours watching the fish and joke that it must be drunk.

Landlord Liam Matthews, 53, bought the goldfish in 2004 from a pet shop.

He says that it has become a tourist attraction since then and says it has since become a tourist attraction.

NATO head "seriously concerned" by Georgia clashes

NATOBrussels  - The head of NATO is "seriously concerned" by the outbreak of fighting in Georgia and calls on all sides to return to the negotiating table, a statement released in Brussels said Friday.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer is "seriously concerned about the events that are taking place in the Georgian region of South Ossetia," and said that NATO is "closely following" the situation, the statement said.

De Hoop Scheffer "calls on all sides for an immediate end of the armed clashes and direct talks between the parties," it said.

Incessant rains have brought the entire city to a near standstill with many major crossroads being waterlogged. .

Traffic is still moving at a snail''s pace.

"I have been stuck here since past 45 minutes. I started at around 8:15 a. m. from my place and could manage to cover only five kilometers in one hour," said Vivek.

Georgian separatists appeal to Russia in heavy fighting

Moscow - South Ossetia has appealed to its ally Russia for military aid in violent fighting with Georgian troops who surrounded the capital Friday.

"Heavy fighting in and around Tskhinvali is ongoing," the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported. "The people of South Ossetia request the president and the leadership of the Russian Federation to help and to undertake measures to protect its citizens."

Most residents in South Ossetia and Georgia's other breakaway region have been issued Russian passports as Moscow stepped up ties with the rebel governments in recent years, angering Tbilisi.

Indonesian medical personnel set to join Japan's work force

NursesTokyo - Indonesian nurses and care-givers planning to train and pursue a career in Japan said Friday they hoped to break down barriers of prejudice for more of their compatriots follow.

"As a group of pioneers (in this project), we are hoping to gradually change Japan's mindset so that more of our counterparts can be easily accepted to work here for a long term," Erli Ridwan, 35, said at a press conference at Tokyo's Japan Press Centre Friday.

Ridwan arrived in Japan Thursday, along with 204 other Indonesian nurses and care-givers to start working in Japan's medical sector.
