Tahawwur Rana''s bail plea hearing today

Tahawwur Rana''s bail plea hearing todayChicago, Dec 15 : Canadian born Lashkar operative Tahawwur Hussain Rana''s bail plea will be heard today in a Chicago court.

Rana is one of the two LeT operatives caught by the FBI in October on charges of plotting a major terror attack against India that left 166 people dead in Mumbai.

Earlier on December 2, during the one-and-a-half-hour long hearing, Rana''s lawyer Patrick Blegen produced three witnesses, including Rona''s brother-in-law, who spoke about his "honest and trustworthy character".

"No, it doesn''t disturb me because I know that Judge Nolan is going to take everything into account and is taking her time because it''s a very complicated and serious case. I mean, obviously I would prefer to have him out, and he has been in custody for a long time, but we''re going to be as patient as we can be," Rona''s lawyer Blegen had said after the adjournment.

Rana''s lawyer had claimed that Rana has a clean record and prestige as a businessman.

"They will testify he is not a risk of flight, has ties to the community, that he is regarded as an honest and a trustworthy businessman and has no record whatsoever," he had said.

Rana owns an immigration business that has offices in Mumbai. A grocery shop primarily in the Indian-Pakistani neighbourhood is also under his possession here.

Earlier, the hearing in the case of Rana''s accomplice David Coleman Headley, which was scheduled for December 4, had been indefinitely deferred. (ANI)
