Washington, Mar 27 : A team of researchers at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the UC Davis Center for Biophotonics Science and Technology has made a breakthrough in understanding how HIV spreads through the human body after capturing the process on camera.

Researchers have recorded the transfer of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from infected to uninfected T cells through structures called virological synapses.

The breakthrough study could lead to new methods to block the transmission of HIV, and shows that cell-to-cell may be the predominant mode of HIV transmission in the body.

Washington, March 27 : Engineers at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), for the first time, have observed the initiation of a mass gathering and subsequent migration of hundreds of millions of fish.

The work, conducted using a novel imaging technique, "provides information essential to the conservation of marine ecosystems that vast oceanic fish shoals inhabit," according to the research team.

It also confirms theories about the behavior of large groups of animals in general, from bird flocks to locust swarms.

Until now, those theories had only been predicted through theoretical investigations, computer simulations and laboratory experiments.

Kabul  - The US military claimed on Friday that their forces killed 13 suspected insurgents in two firefights in southern Afghanistan, as the White House is expected to unveil its new strategy on Afghanistan and Pakistan later in the day.

US and Afghan forces attacked an insurgent hideout in Lashkargah, the capital city of southern Helmand province Thursday night after receiving information regarding the militants' presence in the area, the US military said in statement.

Washington, Mar. 27 : The chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee John Kerry has said the United States may seek cooperation from India, China, and Iran to stabilize Afghanistan.

"We also need to reach out to Afghanistan's other neighbours, including India, China, and Iran," the Dawn quoted Kerry, as saying at the confirmation hearing for the new US ambassador to Afghanistan.
