Washington Post to trim its business coverage to overcome financial crisisWashington, Mar 14 : To overcome the ongoing financial crisis, The Washington Post is taking another step toward trimming the size of its newspaper.

The Post is folding its stand-alone Business section into the A section six days a week and drastically reducing the publication of stock tables.

Bringing financial news inside the A section will reduce the newspaper from five to four sections Monday through Saturday, not counting weekly feature sections such as Health, Food and Home.

Speaking before about 800 people at an event sponsored by the World Affairs Council, General David Petraeus acknowledged that the situation in Afghanistan has been spiraling downward and is likely to get worse before it gets better.

Petraeus said more resources are needed in Afghanistan, both military and especially civil to help build a stable government there.

Potential therapeutic target for Down’s syndrome identified

Washington, Mar 14 : Researchers from Salk Institute for Biological Studies have identified a molecular pathway that can be a potential therapeutic target for Down's syndrome, the most frequent cause of mental retardation.

The study showed that synaptojanin-1, a central component of the pathway, is essential to production of glia, brain cells that act as neurons'' personal assistants.

Down''s syndrome, spinal cord injury, Alzheimer''s disease, and stroke all are linked by an overproduction of glia.
