Lehmann rejects unsporting jibe after boot-throwing incident

Jens LehmannHamburg - Former Germany keeper Jens Lehmann has expressed "surprise" at being accused of unsporting behaviour by Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick for throwing an opponent's boot away.

Striker Sejad Salihovic's boot came off at the feet of Stuttgart's Lehmann 20 metres from goal in Saturday's 3-3 Bundesliga draw. Instead of handing it back, the keeper threw it over his shoulder.

The Bosnia forward had to retrieve the shoe from the roof of the net where it had landed. Rangnick said Lehmann's action was "highly unsporting."

ECB may sue players'' union over Stanford-related allegations

ECB LogoLondon, Feb. 23 : The England and Wales Cricket Board is considering legal action against the cricket players union over allegations related to scam-tainted Texan billionaire Allan Stanford.

The board is furious over accusations that the chief executive, David Collier, wanted the Professional Cricketers'' Association to put pressure on the England captain, Andrew Strauss, and his players to sign a new deal with Stanford during the first Test in Jamaica.

Katich acknowledges that Steyn and Co. can be a handful

Simon KatichJohannesburg, Feb. 23 : Australian opener Simon Katich has acknowledged that South Africa's fast bowlers led by Dale Steyn can once again be too hot to handle in the forthcoming series, but hastens to add that the Aussies have their measure.

"He''s (Steyn) obviously up there at the moment. In terms of pace, he''s probably one of the quickest going around, apart from Brett (Lee) when he''s fully fit. You throw in the other couple as well. They''ve got a well-balanced attack," Fox Sports quoted Katich, as saying.

Zaitseva wins biathlon gold for Russia

Olga ZaitsevaPyeongchang, South Korea - Olga Zaitseva of Russia clinched her second gold medal in as many days when she won the women's 12.5-kilometre mass start race on the final day of the biathlon world championships in Pyeongchang Sunday.

Zaitseva, who won with the Russian 4 x 6-kilometre relay team on Saturday missed the target twice on the way to a winning time of 34 minutes 18.3 seconds.

It was the first individual gold medal for 30-year-old Zaitseva at a major championship but her fourth medal in Pyeongchang after the relay gold and bronze medals in the pursuit and sprint races.

Kiwi golf sensation wins Australian classic

Danny LeeWellington - New Zealand amateur Danny Lee elbowed the professionals aside Sunday to win the Johnnie Walker Classic in the west coast Australian city of Perth.

Lee, 18, claimed victory by one stroke in an event co-sanctioned by the European, Asian and Australasian tours.

Lee is the reigning United States amateur champion, and with his win in Perth became the youngest player to win on the European tour and only the second amateur to do so.

Heavy-hearted Jazz earn emotional victory for late owner Miller

Mehmet Okur scored 25 points, Deron Williams had 20 with 13 assists, leading the Jazz to its fourth consecutive win, a highly- emotional 102-88 victory over the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday night.

"This was an emotional game tonight," Williams said. "We just wanted to win the game for Larry and his family. That was our main goal. We wanted to win it for us as well, but for them first."
