Melbourne, Feb. 2: Uncapped South Australia batsman Callum Ferguson and Western Australia batsman Adam Voges were called into the Australian squad on Monday to replace captain Ricky Ponting and opener Shaun Marsh respectively.

Ponting has been rested while Marsh sustained a hamstring injury in game one in Perth, Fox Sports reports.

Melbourne, Feb. 2 : Former national captain Steve Waugh has been inducted into Australian cricket''s Hall Of Fame.

The 43-year-old is the most-capped Test player in history with 168, 12 clear of Allan Border and Sachin Tendulkar.

He made his international debut in the mid-1980s, when the Australian team was at one of their lowest ebbs, and helped transform the side into a cricket powerhouse.

Waugh, the 30th inductee, is Test cricket''s most successful captain with a winning percentage of 71.92, reports Fox Sports.

Hamburg  - American Serena Williams has regained the women's world number one tennis ranking after beating Dinara Safina in two sets in the final of the Australian Open on Saturday.

Williams heads the rankings published by the ruling body WTA on Monday by 282 points from Safina. Williams has 9,432 points, while the Russian stands on 9,150 points.

Serbian Jelena Jankovic, who topped the rankings ahead of the Australian Open, slipped to third, with Nadia Petrova the only newcomer into the top ten.

The Russian is tenth with 3,882 points.

Zagreb - A large crowd braved the cold and falling snow for hours in central Zagreb Sunday evening, expecting to celebrate after the handball world championship final, but instead had to watch Croatia lose to France 24:19.

"Nation on its knees," the Internet portal Index said, reflecting the deflation of a euphoric balloon which had grown in Croatia as their team lined up nine consecutive wins, including one over France in the group stage, to reach the tournament final.

Melbourne, Feb. 2 : Spaniard Rafael Nadal is using his Australian Open triumph to call for a shorter ATP Tour season.

Expressing major concerns for player welfare and the tour itself, the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Nadal as saying on Monday: "I worry about the tour more than I worry about myself because the life after tennis continues."

Jamaica (West Indies), Feb. 2 : England fast bowler Steve Harmison has said that he will try his level best to make the grade for the first England-West Indies Test to be played here from Wednesday.

The Sabina Park is where Harmison skittled the Windies for just 47 with an astonishing second-innings blitz of 7-12 five years ago.

That performance helped propel him to the position of world's No1 ranked bowler later in 2004 - but he has trod a rocky path since then.
