India Wins ODI Against Srilanka

Indian cricket team has won the fourth one-day international at the Premadasa Stadium in India Wins ODI Against Srilanka  Sri Lanka.

Speedster Munaf Patel and spinners Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh perform very well in the match and helped India to clinch the victory with 46-run over the host Sri Lanka.

It is the third successive victory of India in the fourth one-day international.

India has secured 3-1 lead in the five-match series. India secured the victory by 258 in 49.4 over. Mahinder sing Dhoni won the toss and decided to batting in the ground.

Chennai could get world's largest stadium

With the aim to have more seating capacity even more than Eden Gardens and Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), is planning to construct a stadium in Chennai for the World Cup of 2011, which is to be co-hosted by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The stadium is being built on a 50-acre site in Karunkuzhipallam village in Kanchipuram district which is 25 kilometers outside Chennai. This advanced stadium will also have retractable roof to prevent wash outs. However, the contractor has yet to be found by TNCA.

Olympic medal winners get a rousing welcome

The Olympic medal winners have returned home after completion of the games. They got a warm welcome from various sports federations, government officials and common public. India’s bronze medal winners Sushil Kumar and boxer Vijender Singh were very delighted to come back in their homeland with Olympic medal.

Both wrestler Sushil Kumar and boxer Vijender Singh met President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Dr. Singh greeted them on their splendid achievement and promised all sorts of help for the sportsmen.

Mendis needs to stand test of time: Buchanan

Ajantha Mendis seems to have built a really good impression on the Australian former coach John Buchanan, who feels that the player should be judged on long term basis.

On Tuesday, Buchanan reported in Mumbai, “Mendis reminds me a bit of Johnny Gleeson, though he releases the ball much quicker, is taller and stronger. He also has good change of pace.”

Buchanan is the chief coach of Kolkata Riders, an IPL franchise, and the Australian is in the country to carry out a two-day selection trial at Goregaon Sports Club for the same.

East Bengal Exact Revenge

Kingfisher East Bengal has won the Calcutta Football League match against Mohammedan East Bengal Exact Revenge Sporting Club. The match is played at Salt Lake stadium. East Bengal has now 18 points from 10 matches and it is at the third place.

The stadium was flooded with visitors.  The position of East Bengal became stronger following the return of Syed Rahim Nabi, Sunil Chhetri, Subrata Paul and Renedy Singh from a national clinical show.
