Alva appears before disciplinary committee chiefCongress general secretary Margaret Alva on Monday appeared before Disciplinary Action Committee of AICC. Defence Minister AK Antony is heading the committee.

Alva created a storm in Congress last week by alleging that party tickets were sold for up coming assembly polls.

During the meeting, Alva is believed to have told Antony the reasons behind her allegations, party sources said.

She was called by the disciplinary committee after her outburst.

The envoys who presented their credentials were: Zady Gbaka Richard, the Ambassador of Cote d''Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Joseph Caron, the High Commissioner of Canada, Roberto Toscano, the Ambassador of Italy, Francisco L. Benedicto, the Ambassador of the Philippines and Kenneth Thompson, the Ambassador of Ireland.

Leading European wine maker eyes Indian joint ventureNew Delhi, Nov 10 : The German wine-maker, Langguth Wine and Spirits, is looking for an Indian partner to set-up a joint venture in the country.

Helmut G Seibert, the Executive Director of the company reveals, "Yes, this is one point we are thinking at the moment. We look at the growing wine culture in India."

Though, he declined to reveal other details, "At the moment, this year…it''s little bit early to say anything more about it but possibly next year, we''ll be able to tell more on this."

Assam blasts: Police say finger points to NDFB, HUJI involvement

AssamNew Delhi, Nov. 10 : With the Government of Assam having already announced plans to enhance its security apparatus to counter terrorism in the state, the investigations into the October 30 serial bombings have taken on a new hue with evidence pointing to the involvement of the rebel National Democratic Front of Bodoland
(NDFB) and the Bangladesh-based Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami.

According to a report in The Hindu, two of the three Maruti 800 cars used as bombs were purchased by the NDFB less than six weeks before the attacks that claimed the lives of seventy-seven people.

Goldman Sachs cuts India's 2009 growth outlook to 6.7 per cent

New Delhi - Investment bank Goldman Sachs lowered India's economic growth forecast for the financial year 2008-2009 to 6.7 per cent from an earlier 7.5 per cent on account of the global financial crisis in a report released Monday.

Goldman Sachs said the global crisis over the past several weeks had a larger than expected impact on the financial sector and knock-down effects on both domestic and external demand.

"The real economy is already beginning to feel the effects of the liquidity crunch despite the Reserve Bank of India and the government's massive liquidity infusion efforts," the research note said.
