ONGC formalizes move for uranium hunt

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC)New Delhi, Nov. 11 : The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) has signed an MoU with Uranium Corporation of India Ltd. (UCIL) for joint cooperation in uranium exploration and development.

The MoU was signed in South Block by ONGC CMD R S Sharma and UCIL CMD Ramendra Gupta in the presence of Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission (and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy) Dr. Anil Kakodkar.

ONGC Directors Dr. A K Balyan, N K Mitra, D K Pande and U N Bose were also present on the occasion.

Indian shares drop steeply on profit-taking

BSE SensexNew Delhi - Indian equities dropped more than 6 per cent Tuesday, largely because investors were selling stocks to lock in profits from previous gains given the gloomy global economic outlook and negative trading on other Asian markets, analysts said.

A fall in India's exports for the first time in five years in October added to the negative outlook.

The 30-share Sensitive Index of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 9,839.69 points, 6.61 per cent below Monday's close.

The broader 50-share Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed 6.66 per cent lower at 2,938.65.

Speaker Chatterjee accepts resignation of Janata Dal (United) lawmakers

Somnath ChatterjeeNew Delhi, Nov. 11: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee accepted the resignation of five Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MPs from Bihar on Tuesday, days after they announced it in protest against the attacks on north Indians in Mumbai by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists.

The five MPs are Prabhunath Singh, Rajiv Ranjan Singh ''Lalan'', Kailash Baitha, Meena Singh and George Fernandes.

The party has seven Lok Sabha MPs, including one from Uttar Pradesh and one from Lakshadweep.

The MPs had handed over their resignations to Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Acharya on Friday.
