Karkare, Kamte and MC Sharma among Ashok Chakra awardees

Ashok ChakraNew Delhi, Jan 25 : Nine brave hearts including former Chief of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), Hemant Karkare, former Additional Commissioner of Maharastra police, Ashok Kamte and the former Delhi Police Inspector, Mohan Chand Sharma were announced recipients posthumously of the prestigious Ashok Charka award. Their names were announced posthumously today.

PM doing fine, to be ''fully active'' within six weeks

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Jan. 24 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is `doing fine' as he has been taken off the ventilator after undergoing a successful coronary by-pass surgery to overcome multiple blockages to his heart.

Dr Ramakant Panda who led the team of doctors during Singh's surgery said, "The 76-year-old Prime Minister is doing fine now. He is conscious. He also met his family and congratulated all doctors. Ventilator has been taken off and he is breathing on his own. This is an important step."

World leaders wish Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Jan. 25 : Leaders from across the world have sent their good wishes to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, who is recuperating in the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) undergoing a coronary by-pass surgery to overcome multiple blockages in his heart.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have sent bouquets and good wishes for speedy recovery of Dr. Singh.

The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk has also wished for the speedy recovery of Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Delhiites wish speedy recovery to Manmohan Singh

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Jan. 25 : Residents of Delhi on Sunday joined the rest of the nation in expressing concern over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh''s health and wished him speedy recovery after he had undergone a sucessful artery bypass surgery.

Ajay Gupta, a city resident, said the country needs Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"We wish him (Prime Minister Manmohan Singh) all the success and a good speedy recovery. We really hope that he is back to his job as soon as possible because he is one of the ablest men that we have. And we really need him at this hour," Gupta said.

Pune to develop Asia’s first space-theme park

space-theme parkNew Delhi, Jan 25, : Space World, an entertainment centre and stat-of-the-art space-theme park, will be developed in the Sahyadri mountains of Pune by the end of 2010.

Space World will be Asia's first hi-tech centre for space education and entertainment.

The park is being developed by the Lavasa Corporation in collaboration with Dubai-based Space Investment Company (SIC) at a cost of Rs 400 crore.

Space World will offer courses regarding new technologies and space browsing and programmes, which will help to create understanding of aerospace science.

Home Ministry permits NSG to requisition aircrafts in anti-terror operations

National Security GuardsNew Delhi, Jan 25 : In a bid to empower the National Security Guards (NSG) for anti-terror operations, the Home Ministry has authorized the NSG chief to requisition aircrafts from any operator registered in India in the interest of public safety.

An official Home Ministry release says that the notification empowers the Director General of NSG or an inspector General of NSG authorized by the head of the Para-Military force to requisition aircraft from any operator registered in the country.
