President to assess country''s internal security

Pratibha PatialNew Delhi, Sept. 15 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will assess the internal security situation of the country during the two-day conference of Governors, which begins in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Sources said that the focus of the conference would be a threadbare discussion of the internal security environment of the country with special reference to Left-wing extremism and insurgency.

We have vital leads in serial blast, says Delhi police

Delhi PoliceNew Delhi, Sept 15 : Delhi police claimed on Monday to have obtained "vital leads" in the Saturday’s serial blasts in the national capital that left 21 dead and over 90 injured.

Delhi police said a suspected Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist based in Mumbai has emerged as a key suspect along with three from Azamgarh in UP.

It has detained eight people in connection with the blasts, who are being questioned.

Patil will not resign: Singhvi

Shivraj Patil to conduct aerial survey of flood-affected areas in AssamNew Delhi, Sept. 15 : Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has not been asked to resign nor will he be asked to submit his resignation, said Congress party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Monday.

He was responding to calls by the opposition for Patil to resign in the wake of saturday''s serial bomb blasts in the national capital that claimed about 30 lives and maimed over 150.

Asian rights body urges Prachanda to protect rights of Tibetans

Pushpa Kamal DahalNew Delhi, Sept. 15 : Asian Centre for Human Rights urged the visiting Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda to protect the rights of the Tibetan refugees in Nepal and refrain from refoulement of any Tibetan refugee to China.

About 30 percent of the 20,000 Tibetan refugees living in four camps in Pokhara, Nepal who entered Nepal illegally or were never granted a refugee certificate face imprisonment and deportation in an attempt to satisfy China. Altogether 132 Tibetan activists have been arrested since 9 September 2008.

Prachanda says Nepal committed to ensure investor security

Pushpa Kamal Dahal New Delhi, Sept 15 : Nepal’s Prime Minister Prachanda today said that his government is committed to create an investor-friendly environment in his country.

Addressing a luncheon meeting organised by the Indian industrial organization, namely the CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM here, Prachanda said, "We will do all we can to ensure industrial security in Nepal.”

“The Nepal Government remains committed to adopt every possible measures to provide investors necessary security," he added.

Prachanda also said one could not compare his country''s relations with India and China.
