Monnet joins race for Orissa Sponge

As if the war between estranged brothers Neeraj Singhal of Bhushan Steel and Sanjay Singhal of Bhushan Power wasn't enough, Delhi-based Monnet Ispat has also joined the race for Orissa Sponge Iron and Steel Ltd.

Monnet, on February 25, made an open offer to buy 61 lakh shares, or 20% stake, in Orissa Sponge at Rs 310 per share. It made the offer through group company Mounteverest Trading and Investment Ltd, which already holds 14.85% stake (29.9 lakh shares) in Orissa Sponge. Monnet's offer will open on April 4 and close on April 23.

The bid is bigger than Bhushan Power's earlier bid for 26% stake at Rs 300 a share. Calls to VR Sharma, the joint managing director of Bhushan Power, went unanswered.

Chargesheet against Mumbai attackers filed

FBI, United StatesNew Delhi, Feb 25 : Mumbai Police on Wednesday filed an approximately 5,000-page chargesheet on the 26/11 terror attacks.

The detailed chargesheet, presented to Metropolitan Magistrate M J Mirza, included reports and forensic examination conducted by the FBI, which had been working along with central security agencies.

Mohammad Ajmal Amir Iman Kasab, the lone terrorist caught alive during the attacks, was not produced in court.

Besides Kasab, nine Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists and twenty most wanted accused were named in the chargesheet.

President Patil stresses need to correct inequities in higher education

Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Feb 25 : President Pratibha Patil today called for inclusive approache to correct the inequities in higher education.

Addressing the Sub-regional Conference of South, South-West and Central Asia on Higher Education here, Patil said, “Expansion of the higher education system must be accompanied by steps to ensure quality and high standards.”

“ Adjustments need to be made within institutions especially on learning strategies and curriculum content. Quality assurance mechanisms which encourage the robust development of higher education should be adopted”, she added

Delhi National Load Despatch Centre to facilitate exchange of power

Sheila DikshitNew Delhi, Feb 25 : Union Minister of Power Sushilkumar Shinde today dedicated the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) of POWERGRID to the nation here in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Speaking on the occasion, Shinde said that the NLDC would facilitate optimal exchange of power between regions.

“ The NLDC in place the grid security at the national level will be considerably improved as it will provide real time information at one centralized location,” he added.

Government to set up an institute of design at Bhopal

Government to set up an institute of design at BhopalNew Delhi, Feb 25 : A design education campus of National Institute of Design (NID), Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, will be set up in Bhopal for imparting education in design, applied research, training, design consultancy services and outreach programmes.

The institute, being set up at the initiative of Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath, would function from a 12-hectare campus.
