Government rejects Antulay''s conspiracy theory on Karkare killing

New Delhi, Dec 23 : The Government today rejected the conspiracy theory propounded by Union Minister A R Antulay over the killing of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare during the Mumbai terror attacks.

Making a statement in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister P Chidambaram said there is "no truth in the different versions that have been circulated about the movement of Karkare on that fateful day."

"It is deeply regrettable that before his death questions were being raised about the genuineness of the investigations that were being conducted by Karkare in a terrorist case and after his death questions are being raised about the circumstances in which he was killed," he added.

During his visit, Nasheed will meet Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to hold talks on ways to further enhance ties between the two countries.

President Nasheed is also scheduled to meet Vice-President Hamid Ansari, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Leader of the Opposition L. K. Advani.

Nasheed will also call on his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil who will host a banquet in his honour.

New Delhi, Dec 23: External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will make a statement in Parliament today on the remarks made by Union Minister for Minority Affairs AR Antulay over the killing of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare during the Mumbai terror attacks.

On Monday, the Rajya Sabha witnessed repeated adjournments following uproar that occurred over the remarks by Antulay. He has been in the line of fire after he expressed doubts about the circumstances in which Karkare was killed during the recent Mumbai attacks. He also demanded a probe into Karkare''s death.

Dr. Ramadoss reviews Avian Influenza situation

Anbumani RamadossNew Delhi, Dec 22 : Union Health Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss today reviewed the Avian Influenza situation in the country and looked into the preparedness of various agencies in this regard.

Dr. Ramadoss will write to all the Chief Ministers and Health Ministers to upgrade the preparedness to deal with the disease.

Expressing concern on recurrence of Avian Influenza in West Bengal, he requested the health set up of the State to scale up their preparations and efforts to deal with the situation.
