Pawar asks agricultural scientists to evolve farmer oriented technologies

Sharad PawarNew Delhi, Feb 23 : Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today asked agricultural scientists to evolve technologies that result in higher incomes for farmers without harming the country''s natural resources.

Addressing farmers and agricultural scientists after inaugurating the Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela (agriculture fair) at IARI, Pusa, Pawar said: "Agricultural scientists must also see that the technologies are easy to adopt in Indian conditions."

CPM seeks Swiss bank accounts details of all IndiansNew Delhi, Feb 23 : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday called on the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) to furnish the details of Indians who have illegally stashed away funds in Swiss bank accounts to evade taxes.

The demand came as one of the largest Swiss banks, UBS, agreed to provide information to the United States about account holders who are suspected to have evaded taxes in America.

Supreme Court advances hearing on Madras HC lawyers'' strike

India MapNew Delhi, Feb 23 : The Supreme Court today advanced the hearing of Madras High Court lawyers strike from February 25 to 27.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan decided to hear the matter on Wednesday after the Court was informed that subsequent developments, including a clash between the lawyers and policemen, have taken place.

The Court was told that the situation instead of improving has deteriorated and needed to be heard urgently.

India says Pakistan must talk directly, not through media

Pranab MukherjeeNew Delhi, Feb 23 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said India is ready to cooperate with Pakistan, but underlined that the request should come through official channels only.

Talking to reporters here, Mukherjee said, "Whatever information we get from Pakistan, we respond to it. But information must be made available through official channels and not through media."
