Chennai/Srinagar/New Delhi, August 27 : Muslim clerics on Wednesday accused the lawmakers for politicizing the issue of Amarnath land allotment to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing agitations and protests for almost past two months on the issue of allotment of land to SASB for setting up temporary camps for the devotees taking part in the annual Amarnath yatra.

New Delhi  - Police found three more bodies Wednesday of people killed in clashes between Hindus and Christians in India's eastern state of Orissa, bringing the death toll to 11, news reports said.

A few fresh incidents of rioting and arson led authorities to impose shoot-on-sight orders in parts of the curfew-bound Khandamal district, where the death of a Hindu leader has sparked violence since Monday, the PTI and IANS news agencies reported.

New Delhi, Aug 27 : Justice Ashok Kumar Mathur, a retired judge of the Supreme Court has been appointed as Chairperson of the Armed Forces Tribunal.

The tenure of appointment of Justice Mathur as Chairperson in the Armed Forces Tribunal will be for a period of four years from the date of assumption of the charge of post or till he attains the age of 70 years whichever is earlier.

Born on August 7, 1943, Justice Mathur was elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court on June 7, 2004 and retired from there on August 6.

New Delhi, Aug 27 : President of Lao People''s Democratic Republic (PDR) Choummaly Sayasone, who is on a five-day visit to India to strengthen bilateral ties, was accorded a ceremonial reception by President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today.

Expressing happiness at his visit to India, Sayasone said that he saw in it an opportunity to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

New Delhi, August 27 : Golden Olympian Michael Phelps has apparently made a special place in U. S. President George W. Bush’s daughter Barbara’s heart, for she reportedly kept on telling her friends that the swimmer could be spectacular during the Beijing Games.

"Barbara, 26, often talked about Phelps, 23, with her friends even before the Beijing Olympic Games," chinaview. cn quoted the Globe Magazine as saying in a report.

The journal said that Barbara’s words suggested that she admired Phelps'' swimming skills, and considered him to be a charming and handsome athlete.
