NBCC present dividend cheque of Rs.55.97 crore to Jaipal Reddy

S Jaipal ReddyNew Delhi, August 26 : National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) on Tuesday presented a dividend cheque of Rs. 55.97 crore to Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy.

The cheque was presented by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NBCC, Arup Roy Choudhury.

The company has declared a whopping gross profit of Rs. 418 crore with a total income of Rs. 2025 crore.

Reddy congratulated the NBCC team for scaling new heights and asked to maintain the status and standard of the largest Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) in the construction and infrastructure sector.

National Conference on financial reporting at Baroda

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India New Delhi, Aug 26 : Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will organise a two-day Workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) at Baroda on August 29 and 30.

The programme, being handled by the Committee for Members in Industry of ICAI, is intended to give an overview of application of IFRS in Indian scenario.

The programme focuses more on concepts that are relatively new under Indian GAAP and on topics which by and large potentially impact the net worth and profit or loss under more common situations.

US affirms commitment to India in securing a clean waiver from NSG

United States, India, NSGNew Delhi, Aug 26 : The US Ambassador to India David C. Mulford has said that his country is committed to work with India to rapidly complete the remaining steps necessary to conclude the civil nuclear cooperation initiative.

“The US and India stand shoulder-to-shoulder in their desire for a clean exception and we will continue to work with our Indian partners to persuade the NSG countries that such an exemption is in the international community’s best interest. ” Mulford said on Monday.

China to crack down on corrupt officials’ lovers too

New Delhi, Aug 26 : Family members and secret lovers of corrupt Chinese officials too could face trial if the draft of the Criminal Law''s seventh amendment is passed.

Spouses and children of and/or people who have "intimate relations" with corrupt officials could be jailed for more than seven years if they are found guilty of taking advantage of such officials'' positions to get bribes or make money illegally.

The draft was submitted to the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, the country''s top legislature, for the first reading on Monday, the China Daily reported.

Five killed, curfew imposed after churches torched in India

OrissaNew Delhi  - Curfew was clamped in Kandhamal district of India's eastern state of Orissa on Tuesday as police put the death toll at five in violence by Hindu right-wing activists who vandalized and set fire to Christian churches and church property in the area.

Activists of the right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad and its affiliate Bajrang Dal attacked churches, torched vehicles and stopped rail and road traffic across the state Monday. They called the strike to protest the weekend killing of their leader in a campaign against religious conversion.
