Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika SoniNew Delhi, Aug 26: Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni has said that the Indian film industry is growing at a fast pace and attracting attention not only from South-East Asia and Asia, but also from Europe and the West.

Speaking at the Today's Traveller Diamond and Platinum Awards function here last night, Soni said India has not only emerged as one of the biggest film industry in the world but also has quality films coming from it.

Monsoon floods affect 1.5 million people in India's Bihar state

BiharNew Delhi  - Floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains have affected nearly 1.5 million people in India's eastern state of Bihar, officials said Monday.

All major rivers are flowing above the danger mark in the state where 33 people have died in rain-related incidents including house collapses.

Electricity supplies, road and train services were disrupted as floods submerged several areas in the state.

Infosys to buy Britain's Axon Group for 753 million dollars New Delhi - India's Infosys Technologies Ltd announced Monday it has agreed to buy Britain-based Axon Group Plc in a cash deal valued at 407.1 million pounds
(753.1 million dollars).

Infosys, the country's second-largest software company, said it expected the deal to be completed by November.

Supreme Court extends ban on SIMI for six weeksNew Delhi, Aug 25 : The Supreme Court today extended the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) by six weeks.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan also fixed September 24 as the date for next hearing in this case.

The Centre had challenged the decision of the Special Tribunal headed by Justice Geeta Mittal to lift the ban on SIMI.

On August 6, a bench headed by the Chief Justice Balakrishnan stayed a special tribunal order that had earlier ordered lifting restrictions on its activities.
