Vice Admiral Vijay Shankar to take over as Commander-in–Chief of Andaman & Nicobar

New Delhi, August 25 : Vice Admiral Vijay Shankar is likely to take over as Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command on 30 September.

Vice Admiral Shankar is presently the Commander-in-Chief of Strategic Force Command.

He would take the charge from Air Marshal S. Radhakrishnan.

Vice Admiral Shankar is an alumnus of the 34th course of National Defence Academy (NDA). He was commissioned in the Indian Navy on January 1970. He is a specialist in navigation and direction. He holds an M. Sc degree in Defence studies and is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Naval Higher Command Course and the Naval War College at New Port, USA.

Top Canadian universities in India to attract students

New Delhi, Aug 25 : Fifteen of Canada’s elite universities are in India to hold information sessions on Canada as a destination for higher education.

The delegation is led by Michelle Beaton of Ryerson University, Toronto, and assisted by Ginette Sanfaçon of McGill University. The delegation will be in India from August 18-28.

The sessions are being organized by the Canadian Higher Education Committee under the aegis of Council of International Schools (CIS) and have been held in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. It is Council’s fourth consecutive tour to India.

Two biker-gang’s members killed in an encounter in Capital

DelhiNew Delhi, Aug 25: The Delhi Police on Monday gunned down two members of a bikers’ gang, which was involved in number of recent shooting and robbery incidents, in an encounter.

Gang leader Om Prakash alias ‘Bunty’ and one of his associates Rajesh were killed in the police encounter in Badarpur area of south Delhi at around 5:30 a. m.

Three policemen suffered bullet injuries and were rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where condition of the one of them is stated to be critical.

Tibetan exiles stage protest demonstration in New Delhi

Tibet, ChinaNew Delhi, August 23 : Scores of Tibetan exiles on Saturday gathered in New Delhi, to protest against violation of human rights by Chinese authorities inside Tibet.

The protesters gathered at the historical site of ''Jantar Mantar'' in the Capital.

Swaying the Tibetan flag and shouting slogans like ''Free Tibet'' and ''Long Live Dalai Lama'' they tried to motivate the fellow protestors.

The police forcibly took away the four Tibetan exiles, who were sitting on hunger strike for the past few days, to the hospital.
