India gets NSG waiver

Manmohan SinghVienna, Sept 6 : The 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) has agreed to grant India a "clean waiver" here today.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had a meeting with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and National Security Advisor Shicshankar Menon in New Delhi after two days of talks failed to break a deadlock in the NSG over granting a clean waiver to India.

On Friday, Pranab Mukherjee had issued fresh statement on India''s commitment to non-proliferation.

Nuclear exporters seek to clinch India trade waiver on Saturday

Manmohan SinghVienna  - Nuclear-exporting countries were optimistic in Vienna Saturday that they could agree on a trade waiver for India, a key step before the United States can implement its 2005 nuclear agreement with New Delhi.

As they gathered for a third day of talks, members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), which sets international export control rules, said they expected to make an exemption from their rules, giving India's growing atomic energy sector access to global suppliers.

India's declaration on Friday about its commitments to nuclear non- proliferation was key to making a decision possible, diplomats said.

Manmohan, Pranab discuss NSG issue

Pranab MukherjeeNew Delhi, Sept 6 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Saturday held discussions with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and National Security Adviser M K Narayanan on the deliberations of the 45-member Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) after the crucial two day meeting remained inconclusive on Friday.

Delhi University polls: ABVP wins one, NSUI bags other three

New Delhi, Sept 6: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday won the president's post in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections while the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) bagged the other three top posts.

ABVP's Nupur Sharma defeated NSUI’s Sonia Sapra by 1,639 votes to become the new DUSU president. Sharma got 10,345 votes, DU election officials said after the counting of votes, in which about 65 officials were engaged from 9:00 a. m.

Congress-affiliated NSUI won the vice president, general secretary and joint secretary seats defeating its nearest BJP-affiliated ABVP rivals.

Fire, not explosives caused collapse of WTC Building 7

New York, Sep 6 : Investigators have finally determined that fire caused Building 7 at the World Trade Center to collapse on September 11, 2001.

The fall of the 47-story World Trade Center''s Building 7 at 5:20 p. m. on Sept. 11, 2001, was primarily due to fires from the building itself, NIST announced Friday, following an extensive, three-year investigation. This was the first known instance of fire causing the total collapse of a tall building, the agency said.

Dr. Shyam Sunder with the National Institutes of Standards and Technology said it was primarily due to fire.

After a three year investigation, he discovered debris from Tower 1 started fires on at least 10 floors of Building 7.

New Delhi, Sep 6 : Pranab Mukherjee to inaugurate WHO-SEAR meetings on Sept. 8External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate 26th Meeting of Ministers of Health from the countries of WHO South East Asia Region 
(SEAR) and 61st Session of Regional Committee of South East Asia Region of WHO here on September 8.

The meetings are hosted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss will be coordinating the proceedings.
