SEBI to allow Exchange-traded bondsThe Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is all set to allow exchange trading in corporate bonds. The step is aimed to help infrastructure to raise low-cost funds which would have long repayment period. It would help to bring transparency in the corporate bond market and attract investors to invest in long-term bonds.

Car makers pass duty cut benefits to customers

Almost all car manufactures have slashed prices of their various car models by 3-3.5%. The price cut has come after four percent reduction in excise duty announced by union government in the recently announced economic booster package. Maruti, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Toyota have passed excise duty cut to customers in almost all categories. Prices of small car segment like M-800 and Santro have come down by at least Rs 6,500. Hyundai dropped prices up to Rs 44,792 on its top-end Sedan Sonata and Rs 16664 for the i10 hatchback variants.

IIFCL to raise Rs 10k crore through bonds

IIFCL to raise Rs 10k crore through bondsState-owned India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL) has announced to raise Rs 10,000 crore through tax-free bonds in addition to the Rs 10,000 crore announced by the union government for infrastructure sector in the economic stimulus package. The amount would be used to refinance the bank loans that have been taken for various infrastructure projects.  

Study: Living with a woman increased frequency of screening for prostate cancer

A recent study revealed that presence of woman in life increases frequency of screening for prostrate cancer by 40 per cent. Researchers found that men who live with a woman are more likely to be screened for prostate cancer than men who live alone, even if they have a family history of the disease.

Lauren P. Wallner, a doctoral student at the University of Michigan studied data collected from the medical records of 2,115 Minnesota men between the ages of 40 and 79.

The study subjects were asked to fill questionnaires about their family history of prostate cancer, concern about getting the disease, and their marital status. Researchers studied the frequency of rectal exams and blood tests the study subjects had to detect prostrate cancer.

Half-dose flu shots are as effective as a full dose in people under age 50

Recent study revealed a new way which could help in to fulfilling storage of vaccine. Researchers found that half-dose flu shots are as effective as a full dose in people under age 50 who have been previously vaccinated.

Research team led by Dr. Renata Engler of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. conducted a clinical trial involving healthy adults aged 18 to 64.

The study of more than 1,000 subjects revealed that those who received the half-dose vaccine produced a similar immune response to the flu compared to those who received the full-dose vaccine.
