Terror forces organizers to cancel Live Earth India
Mumbai: Live Earth India, which was slated to take place December 7 in Mumbai, has been called off due to the recent terror attacks in the city.
In a press release, Live Earth India organizers including Live Earth founder Kevin Wall, climate change activists and Nobel laureates Al Gore and Dr R K Pachauri said, "We will continue to work for solutions to the climate crisis for the good of the people of India and around the world. But for now, our thoughts and our prayers are with the victims of this terrible attack, with the bereaved, with the people of Mumbai and with everyone in India."
The organizers said that they were stunned by the tragic events of the past few days in the host city, Mumbai.
The concert was to promote "Light a Billion Lives" campaign - a project to light up India's villages with solar energy.
Among those celebrtaed names planning on taking part in the concert for environmental awareness were the Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi and singer Roger Waters.
Besides this, Bollywood stars, including actors AmitabBachchan, his son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, were also due to perform.
The concert was conceptualised by the Live Earth foundation, Wizcraft and Dr R K Pauchari's TERI.
Almost 200 people, including 22 foreigners, lost their lives in a blockade that lasted for three days, turning India's financial and entertainment center into a war zone.
