A call received on Sunday evening, issuing a threat to Congress President Sonia Gandhi when she visits the state to attend the state Congress meet in Kochi on December 16, has sent the Kerela police into high alert mode.

Congress President will reach Kerela on December 15. She will stay in Kochi that day and address the PCC general body convention the next day to be attended by 5,000 party delegates.

M.R. Ajith Kumar, Kollam Superintendent of Police, said the anonymous call to his office phone was attended by a constable. In the call a male voice informed the constable that he was the agent of a 10- member gang of terrorists that had been assigned the task of eliminating Sonia Gandhi during her visit.  

According to a senior police officer, the Central intelligence agencies were immediately informed about the threat call and the call was traced to Muscat.

A top police officer said that the police were not taking any chances even if there are chances of the call turning out to be nothing but a prank.
