Three Algerians at Guantanamo due for transfer to Bosnia

Washington  - Three Algerian men with Bosnian citizenship could be moved from the US prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to custody in their adopted country as early as Tuesday, the Washington Post reported Tuesday on its website, citing US officials.

Bush administration officials told the newspaper the men were already undergoing pre-release processing.

A US federal judge last month ordered the three Algerian-Bosnians to be speedily released in a case that the US Supreme Court had allowed to go forward.

Two other Algerians who lived in Bosnia but were not Bosnian citizens were not immediately being released, although they were involved in the same legal case. Washington and Sarajevo were in continuing talks about the possible transfers.

The five Algerians living in Bosnia were seized by US troops in 2002 in Sarajevo, after a Bosnian court had found insufficient evidence to hold them on suspicion of allegedly plotting to blow up the US embassy in Bosnia. (dpa)
