Sydney, Apr. 15 : Noted cricket columnist Peter Roebuck is of the view that Australian selectors would need to carry out surgical changes in the national squad if the team is to regain its number one status in Tests and one-dayers.

In article for the Sydney Morning Herald, Roebuck says radical changes are needed in the Australian one-day squad. He believes fresh legs and arms should replace Michael Hussey, his younger brother David Hussey and fast bowler Nathan Bracken.

"Unfortunately, several of the senior players have fallen short of requirements. No sound reason can be found to retain Nathan Bracken or the Hussey brothers for the final match of this series, a dead rubber to be played in Johannesburg," Roebuck said.

"Bracken''s bowling has been overwhelmed by mildness, David Hussey''s shot selection has been poor, particularly in critical moments, and Mike Hussey has repeatedly misjudged line and length, thereby provoking speculation about his eyesight - though stress is a more likely culprit," he added.

"This trio have not sustained the high standards expected of them and the time has come to give others an opening. It does not mean the end of the road, merely that form has been lost," he said.

He suggested that it would right to bring in leg-spinning all-rounder Cameron White and off-spinning all-rounder Marcus North into the ring.

He also endorsed the return of Shaun Marsh as a step in the right direction. (ANI)
