Truckers vow to continue strike

Truckers vow to continue strike Truckers, who have been off the job, have said that they will continue their strike even as they are being convinced by the port and the government.

They said that they will remain off the job on Monday even after warning form the authorities that their licences might be revoked and their employment might be terminated.  Unifor spokesman Gavin McGarrigle said Sunday that instead of breaking off the strike, the treats have strengthened the resolve of the truckers who have been off the job since February.

McGarrigle said, "Our people aren't going to be bullied.  What kind of a country are we living in here when people follow all of the rules ... and then be told there will be no negotiations at all? This is Canada, not some banana republic.  These people are not slaves."

Port officials issued the warning that truckers might lose their port licences if they aren't in their cabs Monday.  Peter Xotta, Port Metro Vancouver's vice-president of operations said that the protests have gone on for a long time and the truckers have made a point.  Xotta said he expected drivers to respect the law and return to work.
