Women suffer more pain in arthritis than men- study

Women suffer more pain in arthritis than men- studyA new research revealed that women are more susceptible to the rheumatoid arthritis than men. Due to the disease they are more likely to suffer pain, tiredness and aches.

A consultant, Dr. Tuulikki Sokka in Rheumatology at the Jyvaskyla Central Hospital, Finland, and her colleagues analyzed the links between the disease and the gender.

For study, 6,000 rheumatoid arthritis patients from 70 clinics in 25 countries were involved. The patients completed a self-report about their condition and evaluated by a doctor and it was found that women reported more severe symptoms and higher work disability rates than men.

Sokka said: “The level of rheumatoid arthritis appears to be pretty much the same in both sexes but the symptoms of joint tenderness and things like that appear to be worse in women.”

The research, published in the journal Arthritis Research and Therapy, reveals that men and women had similar levels of the disease but women experienced more severe symptoms as they had less strength than men.
