Yemen dismantled Israeli-linked terrorist cell: President

Yemen dismantled Israeli-linked terrorist cell: President Sana'a, Yemen - Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said on Monday that Yemeni police have dismantled a "terrorist cell linked to the Israeli intelligence services."

"Members of a terrorist cell were arrested five days ago, and will be put on trial for links with the Israeli intelligence services," Saleh said in speech in the south-eastern province of Hadhramout.

Quoted by the official Saba news agency, Saleh said, however, the cell was operating under the "slogan of Islam."

The Yemeni leader did not provide further details about the group or its members, but he said the details of the trial and charges against them would be made public later.

He condemned terrorist attacks in the country and called on political parties to cooperate with authorities in the fight against terrorism.

"Those who commit acts of terrorism do not realise what they want, and they have got no political agenda through which we can talk with them," the agency quoted Saleh as saying.

Yemen was recently the scene of terrorist attacks claimed by al-Qaeda. The latest was a car bomb attack that targeted the US embassy in Sana'a on September 17, leaving 18 people dead, including six attackers. (dpa)
