15% US adult internet users now use Twitter, reportAccording to a new report, about 15 per cent of U. S. adult Internet users are logged on to the micro blogging sire, Twitter.

The 15 per cent mark is higher than 13 per cent recorded in May 2011. The site had recorded 8 US users in November 2010, according to the report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. The report showed that while the groeth in the number of new user has slowed, the existing users are much more engaged on the site, using more features and spending more time.

The report says that 8% of Twitter users are actively engaged on the site on an average day. The figure has doubled since May 2011 and is four times 2 per cent recorded in 2010. It is believed that the increasing use of mobile to access the site is increasing the user engagement.

Report says that smartphone users are increasing using the site because of the well suited 140-character messages for getting information. The Pew study also showed that the usage is higher among younger users. It was found that about 31 per cent of the internet users between the age of 18 and 24 use the micro blogging site.

“The rise of smartphones might account for some of the uptick in usage because smartphone users are particularly likely to be using Twitter,” said the report.
