In a latest incidence of environmental damage, a gas pipeline has spilled 25,000 gallons of gasoline near a small town on Montana's Crow Indian Reservation.

Federal officials have said that the leakage in the Phillips 66 pipeline is not likely to pose any health problems to the general public. A representative from the Houston-based oil refinery and chemical company claimed that the amount of gas leaked was much less than reported in the media. However, the company did not offer its own estimates of a leakage.

The initial estimates were released following a company report to the government's National Response Center. Officilas from the federal government are yet to determine the cause of the leakage. Officials are workin to find out the reason for a leak in the 8-inch underground line.

The leakage occured about 15 miles southwest of Lodge Grass, a town located near the Wyoming border. The gas line has seen at least three spills over the past two decades.

Phillips 66 Co. spokesman Dennis Nuss said, "We're still assessing the area," Nuss said. "The line has been excavated in order to be able to be repaired."
