Peine/Brunswick, Germany  - Sixty-six people were injured in a series of accidents on a motorway in northern Germany which involved 259 cars, authorities said Monday.

Officials said 10 people suffered life-threatening injuries in the crashes, that occurred in several locations late Sunday and led to the A2 motorway near Brunswick remaining closed for traffic until Monday morning.

The pile-up occurred when drivers lost control of their vehicles following strong rains. (dpa)
