Aamir Khan on Time magazine’s coverPrestigious Time magazine has featured Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on the cover page of its most recent issue, thanks to his extremely successful TV show "Satyamev Jayate" that focused on burning issues being faced by India.

Time magazine featured Mr. Khan on the cover with the caption 'Khan's Quest,' stated, "He's breaking the Bollywood mold by tackling India's social evils. Can one actor change a nation?"

The recently broadcast episodes of "Satyamev Jayate" shed light on mulish inequities such as caste discrimination, the unchecked abortion of female foetuses, honour killings and the killing of brides for dowry. He also brought the plight of manual scavengers to light.

The TV show reached an estimated one-third of the country, and encouraged people to consider new ways to tackle unrelenting flaws of modern India that have already been accepted by many citizens as normal.

The show prompted the Rajasthan government to pledge that it would set up new fast track courts to decide pending cases of female foeticide. It was after this show that Parliament invited Mr. Khan to discuss the issue of foreign direct investment in pharmaceuticals.

Previously, only two Bollywood stars featured on the cover of Time magazine- Parveen Babi in 1976 and Aishwarya Rai in 2003. Other Indians who have made it to the cover of Time are Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narendra Modi, Sachin Tendulkar and Sania Mirza.
