ABC News & Facebook Team Up For Political Coverage
Beijing: ABC News and Facebook have announced that they have teamed up together to build an interactive political forum on a social networking site during the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign.
According to the two companies, the “U.S. Politics,” built by the joint forces of Facebook technology and ABC's coverage, will help providing the Facebook users with new ways to learn about and discuss the upcoming primary and national elections.
The Facebook's vice president of business development, Dan Rose said to ABC News.com, "The goal is to extend the debate from being a one-hour session that happens on television to a dialogue that can take place before, after, and now during the debate between voters.”
The application will let the ABC News reporters embedded with the campaign of the various candidates to post blogs, photographs and news articles directly onto Facebook. "Debate Groups," a section of the application will let Facebook members to post and share thoughts about the campaign.
The team will all set for the Jan. 5 debates being sponsored by ABC and WMUR at St. Anselm College in Manchester.
However, it’s not the first time that an attempt has been made to bring politics to the Web 2.0 arena. YouTube and CNN hosted a Democratic debate where presidential candidates fielded questions submitted by YouTube users, in July. Similar debate for Republican candidates will be aired on CNN, on Wednesday.
