Airbus makes emergency landing in Canada; windshield brokenNew York - An Airbus carrying 255 passengers made an emergency landing early Tuesday in Newfoundland after the windshield burst as the aircraft was over the Atlantic Ocean, broadcast reports said.

CBC reported that the plane had taken off from Toronto and was on its way to Gatwick airport in London when the accident happened.

The pilot turned around and brought the Airbus 310 securely down into the St John's, Newfoundland, airport.

The airport director Bob Nurse said no one had been injured. Passengers were transported to a hotel.

The aircraft, which belongs to the Canadian charter company Air Transat, was to be repaired in St John's.(dpa)
