Panjim (Goa), Oct 20 : About 30 iconic model of India - Ambassador cars participated in the 14-day car rally kicked off from Colva beach in Goa on Sunday.

Karma Enduro Challenge 2008 has been organized to raise funds for an Indian charity and a UK based charity organisation.

2000 kilometers long dawn-to-dusk car rally starting from Goa would end in Cochin backwaters on October 28.

"Above anything its like seeing India in a different way. It''s not a guide or talk, its not like follow the umbrella stuff. It''s basically we take them to places where leave alone tourist, not even domestic tourist would have ever gone, and in their own pace, in their own style," said Prem Chandran country coordinator of Karma Enduro rally.

Around 123 enthusiastic participants mostly from United Kingdom would drive Ambassadors across west to south India to raise funds for the charity.

The funds are being raised for ''Adventure Ashram'', a project in India to build a hospital for people in the Palani Hill range of southern India and for Rainbow Children''s Charity Trust for terminally ill kids and their families in the UK.

Karma Enduro, which runs many spectacular adventure fundraising events across the globe, sponsors the adventure event. They have raised over 1million pound for the charities.

Despite the flash and snazziness of foreign designed bodies of cars and the efficiency of latest engines, Hindustan Motor''s Ambassador, based on the design of Britain''s 1950''s Morris Oxford, is still the preferred car in a country full of potholes.

The UK nationals consider the Ambassador as a vintage car as its design is based on the Morris, originally designed in the UK. (ANI)
