Amy Winehouse in court over assault charge
London - Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse went on trial in London Thursday for an alleged assault on a woman at a charity ball last year.
The singer, dressed in a smart grey suit, was besieged by press photographers as she arrived at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London.
Winehouse, 25, only recently returned from an extended stay on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.
At an earlier hearing, the 25-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge that she attacked Sherene Flash at the ball at a smart London hotel last September.
Winehouse had performed at the ball before she is alleged to have assaulted Flash. (dpa)
