Arqiva has successfully completed the process of digital TV switchover in Scotland, after it moved the Black Hill transmitter group to the new signals.

The Black Hill transmitter group serves central Scotland including parts of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Arqiva, which is the transmission provider for terrestrial TV and responsible for the five-year £700 million switchover project, has successfully completed about two-thirds of the engineering work for country wide switch. The engineering work included five new tall masts and many replacement antenna systems. The company has already switched a total of
39 main stations and 709 relay stations.

Peter Heslop, DSO project director at Arqiva said in a statement, “Completing DSO in Scotland is another major milestone in the switchover programme and a proud moment for Arqiva. Scotland in particular has presented many challenges in terms of geography and weather, but these have all been successfully overcome.”

He also said that everything was going well on the nationwide project ad the company is on its way to complete it on time and within the budget. The completion of work in Scotland implies that eight out of the UK’s 15 TV regions have now fully switched over.

This year, the analogue signal in central Yorkshire and Anglia will be switched of while the work on switching signals in Meridian, London, Tyne Tees and Ulster regions will be completed next year.
