Bayern Munich face tough fight over Ribery, says Hoeness

Bayern Munich face tough fight over Ribery, says Hoeness Munich  - Bayern Munich face a hard fight in keeping France midfielder Franck Ribery who could become the focus of increasing attention from other European clubs, general manager Uli Hoeness said in a newspaper interview Friday.

Bayern have repeatedly insisted they have no interest in selling the 25-year-old international who is reportedly wanted by Barcelona and big-spending Manchester City.

Hoeness told Bild newspaper Ribery had two years to go on his contract and he and his family were happy in Munich.

However Hoeness said Ribery's adviser would possibly be interested in a transfer and that developments on the international market could lead to increased pressure.

"For example the question is what will happen at Real (Madrid)? What are the other clubs going to do with their money?" he said.

"If a club buys up a star somewhere, the club that sells will be looking around with its millions, possible also at Ribery. It's a domino effect."

Hoeness said there was no price which would be acceptable for Bayern to sell the player.

"Our aim is to do everything possible to keep Franck. But it will be a brutal fight," he said.

Bayern had to make its position absolutely clear and if by the close of the August 31 transfer period the club was still firm it could even think about extending the player's contract, he added.

Hoeness meanwhile said he was happy with the work of coach Juergen Klinsmann, with Bayern unbeaten in the Champions League and in the running for the Bundesliga title, a point behind leaders Hertha Berlin.

"Juergen has our complete confidence and he knows it," he said.

Bayern travel to VfL Wolfsburg - level on points in second place - for the next Bundesliga game on April 4, followed by a Champions League quarter-final first leg at Barcelona four days later.

"The most important game is the one against Wolfsburg because it's all about the championship and therefore direct qualification for the Champions League," he said.

"This is something we have to achieve, if only to have a good hand in the fight for Ribery." (dpa)
