BEL Q2 profit slips 36%; Torrent Pharmaceuticals’ net profit climbs 7.26%Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has reported a decline of more than 35 per cent in profit for the second quarter ended September 30.

BEL announced on Monday that its profits for the second quarter of current fiscal slipped 35.83 per cent to Rs 80.21 crore, as compared with Rs 125 crore in the corresponding period of previous year.

Revenues remained almost flat at Rs 1,063.56 crore, while earnings per share (EPS) slipped from Rs 15.63 to Rs 10.03 over the same period.

Separately, Ahmadabad-based pharmaceutical giant Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd reported an increase of 7.26 per cent in net profit for the second quarter.

Torrent Pharmaceuticals said that its net profit jumped from Rs 99.99 crore in the second quarter of last fiscal year to Rs 107.25 crore in the second quarter of this fiscal.

Revenues jumped 13 per cent to Rs 777 crore, from Rs 685 crore in the same period of last fiscal year. Revenues from domestic formulation business jumped 15 per cent to Rs 274 crore, while revenues from international operations climbed 15 per cent to Rs 417 crore.

Torrent said US business enjoyed a growth of 80 per cent, while operations from Europe, Russia & Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and rest of the world grew 17 per cent.

During the first half of current fiscal, the company's profit before taxes jumped 11 per cent to Rs 280 crore, from Rs 253 crore in the corresponding period of last fiscal.
