Beleaguered carrier Kingfisher extends grounding of fleetVijay Mallya-promoted beleaguered airline Kingfisher will not resume operations for another week as it failed to resolve an impasse with staff over salaries.

Prakash Mirpuri, a spokesperson for the Kingfisher Airlines, said that the airline was extending the lock-out to Friday, October 12, or to up to earlier date on which the strike ends.

Announcing the decision, Mirpuri said, "We regret that the illegal strike has still not been withdrawn and normalcy has not been restored in the company, thereby continuing to cripple and paralyse the working of the entire airline."

Earlier this week, Kingfisher Chief Executive Sanjay Agarwal had assured the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that the company would restart operations this Friday, October 5.

The airline management on Thursday failed to resolve issues over salaries with Delhi-based pilots and engineers. A day earlier on Wednesday, similar talks failed in Mumbai. It may be noted here that Kingfisher staff have not received salaries for more than six month.

Kingfisher pilots and engineers went on strike on Monday, forcing the struggling company to cancel flights and ground its fleet.

Kingfisher Airlines, which is currently burdened with a debt pile of more than Rs 7000 crore, has never reported a profit.
