Bhupinder Singh elected leader of Opposition in Orrissa In a crucial move, Bhupinder Singh, a senior Congress leader and MLA from Narla Assembly constituency, Orissa was elected as Leader of Opposition on Sunday. Kotpad Basudev Majhi had proposed the name of Mr. Singh for this post.

Senior legislators, Bissam Cuttack and Dambarudhar Ulaka supported the proposal. Infact, earlier both of them were the front-runners for this post.

Prior to the new assembly, J. B. Patanaik was laden with this responsibility.

Chakradhar Paik, legislator from Mohana Assembly seat in gajapati district, was elected as the Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the state.

AICC Orissa in-charge and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Pradesh Congress Committee president K. P. Singh Deo presided over the meeting.

Apart from this, Prasad Harichandan, MLA from Satyabadi constituency was elected as Opposition Chief Whip, while the post of Secretary of the CLP was given to Anup Sai.

It should be mentioned here that the Congress, major opposition party in the new Assembly has 27 legislators.
